Juniperus procumbens 'Nana' - pre-bonsai starters
OUTDOOR TREES - NOT HOUSEPLANTS
Fresh air, natural light and seasonal change keep them healthy.
THE FIRST 7 DAYS
Unpack today
Remove all packing and securing material. Check both pots and foliage.
Let them recover outdoors
Start in bright shade or filtered morning sun for 2-3 days, then increase sun gradually.
Check before watering
Feel the soil about 1/4 inch deep. If it is beginning to dry, water slowly until water drains from the pot.
Pause the big work
For one week, do not repot, fertilize, heavily prune or wire. Let shipping stress pass first.
BEGINNER RULE: CHECK DAILY. WATER BY SOIL, NOT BY CALENDAR.

Keep them growing
A simple care rhythm for young juniper pre-bonsai.
LIGHT
Outdoors. Aim for 4-6 hours of sun. In very hot summers, favor morning sun and afternoon shade.
WATER
Check daily. Water thoroughly when the soil surface begins to dry. Never leave the pot standing in water.
TRAINING
After 1-2 settled weeks, begin gently. Inspect wire often and remove it before it marks the bark.
REPOTTING
Early spring is best. Use fast-draining bonsai soil and avoid aggressive root pruning.
FEEDING
Once established and actively growing, use a balanced fertilizer at the label rate. Do not feed a stressed or dry tree.
WINTER
Keep outdoors. Protect the small pots from severe freezes, drying wind and repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
WATCH FOR
Brittle gray foliage, persistent soggy soil, blocked drainage or webbing. Photograph concerns early.
